Ngulu Nganjin

Celebrating first nations people in the local community

Ngulu Nganjin (‘Everyone’s Voice’) was a new annual event on the Darebin calendar that recognises and celebrates First Nations People and the wider Darebin community. The inaugural Ngulu Nganjin will take place on 1 September 2019, to coincide with Wattle Day. While not currently formally celebrated, Wattle Day is a celebration of hope and common purpose that dates back more than eighty years and is a part of Australia’s history. This date was proposed for the event as it conjures the optimism, colour and abundance of Spring, as well as Australia’s environment and history.

The dynamic First Nations program, co-designed by the Darebin Aboriginal Advisory Committee and hosted by Uncle Jack Charles featured a Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung Welcome Ceremony with Uncle Bill Nicholson & Djirri Djirri Dance Group, nationally renowned Aboriginal singer/songwriter Isaiah Firebrace performing with local primary school students, Kee’ahn, Brothers In Arms plus food stalls and face painting. Fruitbowl was engaged to produce the event working closely with the Darebin Aboriginal Advisory committee do facilitate their vision. The following events demonstrate our experience and ability to produce and manage large scale, high – quality, all-inclusive community events for local government.
